It is with genuine regret that we have made the difficult decision to close our Sixth Form.
Our Sixth Form has not been able to recruit the numbers we would have hoped, either from within the school or externally, to make it viable. These low numbers make it untenable to maintain the Sixth Form, both logistically and financially. On Thursday 19th January 2017 from 5:00pm – 6:30pm in our Hornpipe Theatre, we will hold a formal meeting to discuss with parents and with members of the community what the impact will be when we close the Sixth Form.
If demand for a Sixth Form changes in the future we would of course be open to considering re-opening the provision – pending further consultations with the local community. An improved and expanded Key Stage 3 and 4 offer increases the possibilities that someday we could have a more viable Sixth Form, with increased numbers.
We of course recognise our obligation to our current students and we are working hard to make sure they will be fully supported. We will no longer be accepting any more new students into the Sixth Form – current Year 12 students will be the last cohort, finishing as expected in August 2018. Current Year 11 students will be given support to access alternative provisions delivered locally by other providers.
I am sure you will have many questions, and I will do my best to answer all of them. As always, if you would like to discuss anything with me, separate to Thursday 19th January 2017, then please do not hesitate to make an appointment via the school office.
