Charter pupils who follow the Portsmouth Sail Training Trust’s programme were invited to take part in the opening ceremony of the Sea Angling Classic last week, which took part off the coast of Portsmouth.
The competition is the largest of its kind in the UK and the ceremony was opened by the mayor of Portsmouth, surrounded by pupils who take part in water-based activities from the city.
After the ceremony, all the pupils marched in procession from the steps of the Guildhall to Gunwharf Quays behind the band of the Royal Navy.
Additionally, two pupils from the Year 8 sailing programme were also invited to take part in the angling competition last Friday. They learnt some angling skills and gained their sea legs but after a few hours on the water, came back to shore empty-handed. PSTT instructor Will, based at The Andrew Simpson Sailing Centre said,’ the boys got really stuck in to the challenge of sea angling and were a credit to the school.
Well done to all out Sailing Trust pupils involved!
