Secondary School Reader of the Year 2022

Monday 20 June 2022

We are hugely proud to announce that Kevin in Y9 has been chosen by Portsmouth City Council School Library Service as the Secondary School Reader of the Year 2022. Each participating school involved in the Portsmouth Book Award event was asked to nominate one student. This was Ms Cohen’s justification for nominating Kevin:
‘Kevin took part in the Portsmouth Book Awards (PBA) this year against the odds. He knew it would require him to read four long books (a tough challenge), but with support from home and encouragement from the rest of our team of student judges, Kevin was determined to do it… and he succeeded!

Kevin has worked hard with reading since year 7. He has regularly borrowed books, taken part in reading events and returned reading logs weekly. In literacy classes, Kevin volunteers to read almost every week, he follows the text closely and disregards all distractions in his determination to read. It is to the credit of the other judges that Kevin has completed the PBA books, but it is down to Kevin’s strong work ethic in Literacy and his determination that he has become one of our topflight reading ambassadors as a Portsmouth Book Award judge. I am proud to propose him as my nominee for this award.’

This is the second year running a Charter student has won this award. We couldn’t be more proud!
